South Lake County residents have a free opportunity to take advantage of healthier lifestyles and perhaps shedding a few of those holiday pounds that seem to add up so easily.

Orlando Health has announced its Orlando Health Choose One program. A program that is sponsored by the Live Well Foundation of South Lake. The interactive program will include a six-week, heart-health education program for residents interested in improving their cardiovascular health. The Choose One program offers four programs for heart health improvement. Participants choose one program to focus effort in for improvement. Programs include blood sugar levels, cholesterol improvement, weight loss or blood pressure improvement.

The program includes initial Pre/Post biometric screenings, blood pressure readings, lipid profile waist circumference and body mass index (BMI) measurements. The remaining course is virtual with once-a-week classes.

Any South Lake County resident 18 years of age or older may participate. The program is currently open and accepting registration for the January class. Two additional classes will be offered this year beginning in April and August. Waiting lists are available and encouraged for the remaining classes. Classes are filling up fast according to program manager Lee O’Donnell. O’Donnell is very excited to bring the program to the South Lake County area, an area that she calls home. With a goal of 450 participants, O’Donnell reminds the public that this course is completely free of cost to the participants, in thanks to the funding provided by the Live Well Foundation of South Lake.

Donna Kirtland, Executive Director of Live Well Foundation, said the topics were holistic and included personal goal setting, nutrition label reading, self-care, support systems, and diet and exercise assessments.
