Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation held its Inaugural Pink Ribbon 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct 15, at 8 am. The event was held at Lake David Park in Groveland to support the organization’s mission to provide comprehensive services to the underserved through education, mammograms, and patient navigation on the journey from diagnosis to survivorship with the compassion to ensure no one fights alone.
Nearly 200 people signed up to run/walk in this inaugural event that raised an amazing $21,323 to further this great mission in South Lake County.
The top male finisher was Joshue Muniz, who finished in 22:06. The first-place woman was Sherry Keller with a time of 28:22
Runners both young and old participated in the race, the best time of the 15 and under for the 1 mile was, male Aidyn Schoenthaler, 14, with a time of 9:00 and female Savannah Nixon, 10, with a time of 13:55.
Following the 5K/1M, runners participated in an emotional and uplifting Survivors tribute honoring all of those who have been in this fight! Cheffing it Up served breakfast bagels, drinks were provided by Niagara and music from DJ Party Pete kept the vibe up for the remainder of the event.
The Pink Ribbon 5K was generously Presented by Orlando Health and sponsored by the City of Groveland, Cregan & Co., Advent Health, Deni Loraine Creations, Cherry Lake Inc., Attorney Anita Geraci-Carver, Niagara Water, RKC Transportation, Debbie McGill, Realtor, Texas Roadhouse, Kroger and KT Performance.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to have this event right here in our City of Natural Charm, the route was perfect, and this event personified what our city is about: support, care and compassion for one another,” said Mayor Evelyn Wilson as she handed out medals to finishers and Breast Cancer Survivors.
Founder Robin Maynard-Harris said ” I started this foundation in honor of my mom, and having it here in Groveland where she lived, loved, and passed makes this event extra special. The funds will stay right here to continue to save lives in her memory”.
