Hello Clermont Champions!

On Tuesday, I was honored to participate in the 41st Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. Law officers from all over Central Florida, including our own Clermont Police Department, teamed up to carry the lighted “Flame of Hope” torch to raise awareness and dollars for Florida’s Special Olympics, who call Clermont home.

Spring is here with the flowers blooming and the comfortable temperatures, but it won’t be long before school is out and our lakes, trails, and parks get busier. The Splash Park is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and will open seven days a week on May 27. As we gear up for Summer fun, please remember to be safe and courteous as we enjoy friends and family and welcome guests and visitors to our community.

We will celebrate our American Veterans who died protecting our freedoms on Monday, May 27. The day will start with a parade followed by a memorable program at Waterfront Park featuring a guest speaker, rifle salute, ceremonial remembrances, and much more.

As you likely know, we are in the process of updating Clermont’s Comprehensive Plan. A very important part of that plan is community input. We asked you to participate, and boy, did you deliver! A special thank you to the more than 1,500 people who completed the survey and shared their ideas, concerns and priorities of how we should grow and develop. A third community meeting that will share the survey results and outline the next steps will be scheduled in October.

This will be a very busy year for elections, beginning with Clermont’s Special Election to fill the remaining term of City Council Seat 2. There is no early voting for this election, so you will have to vote by mail or go to your designated polling location between 7 am and 7 pm Tuesday, May 14.

The 2024 General Election is Tuesday, November 5, and will decide many local, state, and national representatives, including Clermont City Council Seats 1, 3, and 5. I encourage you to research the candidates and exercise your right to vote. For a full list of polling locations and other election details, visit www.LakeVotes.com.

I encourage you to join us for “Lunch with the Mayor.” We meet at a different Clermont restaurant on the first Tuesday of each month. You will have to buy your lunch, but I will update you on things happening in the City and you can always ask questions. On May 7, we will meet at Salt Shack on the Lake (846 W. Osceola Street) and on June 4, KeKe’s Breakfast Café (2435 S. Highway 27) will host us.

I continue to feel blessed for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor. If you have questions or concerns, you can always reach me at tmurry@ClermontFl.org.

Until next time,

Mayor Tim Murry
