Lake Apopka Natural Gas District

A historic milestone was reached for Lake Apopka Natural Gas District (LANGD) today as the company marked 65 years of excellence in public service, stewardship and dedication to the communities it serves.

“Celebrating 65 years of service is something every LANGD employee should be proud of,” said Brent E. Haywood, LANGD general manager and CEO. “Today’s anniversary is the result of a fervent commitment to both growth and service, and it highlights the trust and support we’ve garnered from our communities and customers along the way. Thanks to our founders, dedicated employees, trusted board members and loyal customers; together, we’ve built a remarkable community.”

In 1957, forward-looking officials from Apopka, Clermont, and Winter Garden recognized the area’s need for a domestic, reliable, and cost-effective energy source – natural gas. As one of only two special districts established in Florida to serve as independent utilities owning and operating natural gas transmission and distribution systems, the District annually celebrates its team and their service through events like Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day, Public Natural Gas Week and Customer Service Week.

“I’m happy to say that Lake Apopka Natural Gas District continues to realize our mission of offering competitive and reliable natural gas services to our valued communities more than six decades since we were founded,” remarked LANGD Chairman Bill Arrowsmith. “The District takes immense pride in its community and regularly demonstrates it by giving back and serving our community through local initiatives like LANGD’s Helping Hand fund.”

The District has achieved tremendous growth in recent years, expanding by more than 93% over the past decade to serve thousands of customers across Central Florida today. LANGD has also received unprecedented recognition for its dedication to safety, including its highest-ever distinction – the American Public Gas Association (APGA) Gold System Overall Achievement Recognition Award – and the APGA Safety Award over the last 12 consecutive years.

“LANGD’s team members, recognized for their passion and dedication, stand at the core of the District’s achievements,” continued Haywood. “Achieving 65 years is no small feat, and as LANGD continues to grow, our mission remains steadfast – to provide competitive natural gas services with a commitment to excellence and community.”
