The Mascotte Police Department hosted the 5th Annual Cruiser for the Cause on Saturday, October 5th at the Mascotte Police Station, located at 529 East Myers Boulevard. The event is held annually to raise awareness in the community in the fight against cancer. “For the past four years, we’ve focused on breast cancer awareness. This year, we are expanding our support to all those affected by any type of cancer,” says Ofc. Kenia Abreau of the Mascotte Police Department.

The department has long supported the Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation (GCCF) and this year is no exception. To assist in recognizing October as the month that emphasizes year-round support, the department rolled out a new style t-shirt this year that includes a lavender ribbon that symbolizes the department’s commitment to fighting all cancers. The shirts are available for a starting price of $22 through $27, depending on size, and in both men’s and women’s sizes. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the GCCF. To place an order, please get in touch with the Mascotte Police Department at 352-429-3393, option 1.

The event included members from the GCCF who were on hand to provide information about financial assistance, scholarship opportunities for family members, and counseling support for patients and their families who are dealing with cancer. The GCCF was founded in 2004 by a small group of concerned local citizens who had a heart for cancer patients. The organization is composed entirely of volunteers with a sole mission to help those in the South Lake Community who are coping with cancer.

“The Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation appreciates and is grateful for the continued support of the Mascotte Police Department,” says Kay Simpson, one of the founding members of the GCCF. The foundation, which gives 100% of donated funds back to the community, is hosting several fundraisers this month in recognition of October’s cancer awareness month.
