A significant milestone has been reached in the effort to expand healthcare education opportunities in South Lake County, as a private donor has committed a $1 million gift to support the construction of a new Health Professions Academic Building on Lake-Sumter State College’s South Lake Campus.
The generous contribution reduces the project’s remaining fundraising goal to $9 million and further accelerates plans for the state-of-the-art facility, which is designed to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals throughout the region.
The donation builds upon momentum established earlier this year when the Lake-Sumter State College Foundation received a transformative $10 million matching grant from the Live Well Foundation of South Lake. Through the grant, every dollar raised toward the project is matched on a one-to-one basis, helping the Foundation reach its overall $20 million fundraising goal for the Health Professions Academic Building.
College and Foundation leaders say the new facility will play a vital role in expanding healthcare education programs, increasing student capacity, and strengthening the regional workforce pipeline.
