On the evening of April 7, Clermont Police Officers swiftly responded to a large altercation between two groups of juveniles in the area of 5th St. and Carroll St. Though most of the juveniles had dispersed upon the officers’ arrival, it was discovered that a 16-year-old female had sustained a wound to her upper back/neck area, requiring immediate medical attention. The victim was promptly provided with medical aid and airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she is currently in stable condition and expected to fully recover.
Clermont Police Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and it was determined that this was an isolated incident involving known parties, with no imminent danger to the general public.
Initial findings suggested that the altercation was premeditated, with the involved juveniles intending to engage away from the downtown Clermont area due to heightened police presence. This incident was not linked to any large organized event occurring in the vicinity.
Earlier that day, law enforcement officials had received intelligence regarding the potential for a large-scale altercation coinciding with the organized event. Proactive measures were taken, with school resource officers engaging with numerous juveniles to gather information and caution against participation in any fights. The Clermont Police Department bolstered security measures at the event, including increased officer presence and on-scene investigators.
