Orlando Health South Lake Hospital recently hosted an immersive mobile lung screening event for the community to learn about the importance of getting screened.
The event was done in partnership with Orlando Health Cancer Institute and featured an 18-wheeler “Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience” to showcase the advanced tools and robots the institute uses to screen, including a lung biopsy system that helps physicians reach further into the lungs to detect lesions and obtain tissue samples.
Participants were able to speak with providers and navigators to answer questions about treatment. Eligible candidates also received free same-day lung screenings.
“One of our priorities and responsibilities is to educate our community on health and wellness on preventive measures,” said Lance Sewell, president of Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. “We were extremely pleased to host this event to boost awareness around the need for lung cancer screenings and highlight some of the advanced technologies we are using to minimize invasiveness and gather the best information to treat lung cancer.”
Orlando Health South Lake Hospital was also recently named a designated lung cancer screening center by the American College of Radiology.
