This year the Clermont Police Department will host the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Florida on Thursday, April 19. The Special Olympics Torch Run is founded on the special bond of respect and appreciation that exists between the Special Olympic Athletes and Law Enforcement Officers. This event will also be a great day for camaraderie and exercise.
The symbolic torch is brought in from overseas and passed from each Law Enforcement agency within the state of Florida. On May 18, 2018, the torch will reach its grand finale as it arrives at its final destination at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports Center. The LETR is a worthwhile event that makes a positive impact in the community we serve, and the Clermont Police Department is asking for your participation and support.
“It’s only 3.2 miles, and you can walk, run or bike,” said Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway.
The main objective of this walk/run is to promote awareness and raise funds for the Special Olympics and persons with special needs.
Registration in Clermont begins at 9 am at the Special Olympics Florida headquarters at 1915 Don Wickham Drive. The event takes off from the headquarters shortly after registration.
