Liliana Vela, East Ridge High School Outstanding Student Leader

The Community Foundation of South Lake in partnership with the South Lake Chamber of Commerce formed the Foundations for Education Program which provides $1,000 scholarships to five deserving high school students during the school year.

Senninger Irrigation sponsored April’s Outstanding Student Leadership Award at the South Lake Chamber of Commerce Breakfast. James Burks was the presenter.

Liliana Vela is the deserving recipient of this month’s Outstanding Student Leader Award.

Liliana is a student at East Ridge High School where she holds a GPA of 5.1607.  She is a national merit commended student, an AP scholar with distinction, and has been accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She holds leadership positions as the DECA president and previously served as the RHO Kappa treasurer. She has played varsity soccer her entire high school career and was named MVP in 2014, 2015 and 2017.  She also made the all-county first team from 2015-2017.

She is an exceptional community volunteer. Her volunteerism includes Kids College camp counselor, Great Floridian Triathlon volunteer, and a tutor to geometry students preparing for the FSA.

Liliana was unable to attend the Chamber breakfast to accept the award. She was competing in the National DECA competition in Atlanta. Her father, Juan Vela received the award on her behalf.  He expressed his pride and delight in her accomplishments, saying, “we’re very proud of her academic achievements and her overall standing as a well-rounded student, athlete and community volunteer.”
