The Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Unit will be participating in a statewide enforcement initiative with other Florida sheriff’s offices this week in an effort to promote safety of school-aged children in and around school zones throughout the county.

The operation begins on April 22 and runs through April 26. Deputies involved in the operation will be focusing on speed enforcement, those who unlawfully pass school buses, as well as various bicycle and pedestrian violations. The goal is to enhance safety and promote education and awareness.

Member agencies of the Florida Sheriff’s Association will be conducting similar operations in their counties throughout the state during the same timeframe.

The mission of the Florida Sheriff’s Task Force is to perform proactive operations each year to deter criminal activity through coordination of statewide mutual aid and subject matter experts. The goal is to maintain the quality of life Floridians have come to expect.
