Photo: Happy Birthday Surprise for Eleanor Lofgren
Eleanor Elisa Titjen Logren turned 92 years young on June 26. She and her husband David, age 96, have enjoyed 62 years together and witnessed many changes, but COVID has completely turned life topsy turvy.
Things that Eleanor took for granted such as attending church services, visiting friends, shopping, volunteering at South Lake Hospital have all but stopped temporarily.
In spite of the COVID pandemic, the members of Beta Theta, a chapter of ESA, were not about to lose a chance to surprise and celebrate their dear sister’s birthday. Eleanor has for over the past 50 years been an active ESA member. She was a member of Delta Nu-Clermont and later become a charter member of Beta Theta, both chapters serving the south Lake Community.
At 9 am on the morning of her birthday, the group arrived at Eleanor’s home, decorated her yard with flamingos, balloons, and signs.  Practicing COVID precautions, everyone remained outside and sang Happy Birthday loud enough that neighbors joined the
festivities.
There were none of the usual hugs and kisses during the birthday celebration though there was an abundance of love and well-wishes.  The dress code included face masks, and social distancing was practiced.  Everyone brought cards, a variety of food products, paper goods, and the coveted gift: toilet paper.
