Marilyn Paone, Clermont Garden Club President, announced that the Clermont Garden Club won a National Garden Club Award for our Facebook page and one for our Fun with Flowers workshop. The club will be receiving certificates for these awards. Alice Barrows, as Education Chairman, arranged for us to have a Fun with Flowers workshop on Pot-et-Fleur last October to help prepare members for our upcoming Flower Show. Vicki Hearst, Horticulturist, and Maureen Tuber, District VII Judges Council Chairman and accredited judge, gave a wonderful and informative presentation on Pot-et-Fleur at our clubhouse. They discussed the history, guidelines, and different creative designs of Pot-et-Fleur (which means “Pot and Flowers”) that were introduced in France around 1960.
Vicki demonstrated the process by arranging plants and explaining the balance of the plants and container, contrast, proportion, rhythm and scale. Attendees had fun creating their own Pot-et-Fleur to take home to enjoy. Congratulations Alice on a job well done!! The award application was written and submitted by Gwen Carter.
Our Facebook page is maintained by Gwen Carter, Social Media Chairman, and is to connect the garden club community and the public to our programs, civic activities, and community outreach. It opens up a portal for sharing information with our own club members and the public plus members of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs District VII and other districts, Deep South Garden Clubs, and National Garden Club. Way to go Gwen!! The award application was written and submitted by Gwen Carter.
