The annual Battle of the Badges basketball game has been canceled for the health and safety of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made to ensure the well-being of all during this time of health concerns regarding large gatherings. However, the heart of the event, collecting toys for those in need, will continue.

The Clermont Police Department, in conjunction with Christian Men in Action and Christmas Across South Lake will conduct a drive-thru toy drop off on December 11, between 6-8 p.m. at Clermont Elementary School, 680 E. Highland Ave. Those who wish to donate are asked to bring unwrapped toys to the drop off loop in front of the gymnasium.

“We thank the community for its continued support during this holiday season.” Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway said. “Together, we can help bring holiday cheer to our Clermont kids.”

The event benefits Christian Men in Action, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, by helping provide holiday toys to children in Clermont’s Lincoln Park community. Christian Men in Action plans to give out the toys from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve), along with Broadway and members of the Clermont Police Department at the annual Christmas party at McKinney Park, 801 Bloxam Ave.
