On October 26, 2021, at about 8:40 am, the Groveland Police Department responded to South Lake High School (15600 Silver Eagle Rd. Groveland, FL 34736) in reference to a bomb threat.
Groveland Police Department’s priority is life and to ensure everyone’s safety, all students were immediately evacuated. The Groveland Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Clermont Police Department dedicated countless manhours and utilized explosive detecting K-9’s to properly conclude that the school was safe for students to return.
An extensive investigation conducted by the Groveland Police Department, with the assistance of school officials, resulted in the arrest of a juvenile. A 16-year old is being charged with F.S.S. 836.10-1: Written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism and F.S.S. 871.01: Disturbing schools and religious and other assemblies.
Making a threat of violence against a school or other establishment is a felony crime….not a prank or laughing matter. This applies to threats posted online, written, or made verbally. Making a threat will be taken seriously and charges will be filed.
