Tuesday, November 29, began a new phase in Clermont City Government. At the City Council meeting, Timothy Bates left his position as Mayor Pro Tem and Council Member after 10 years of service to the city; Michael Gonzalez, a newly elected council member and Tim Bates and Michele Barnard Pines were sworn into office; and Jim Purvis was selected as the Mayor Pro Tem.
Timothy Bates has served on the City Council since 2012. He is the owner of a home health and mobile diagnostics company and a certified environmental access consultant and an aging-in-place specialist who holds licenses as a certified building contractor and Realtor. Bates has served the people of Clermont, working on multiple boards, councils and committees.
In an emotional statement, Bates said, “I have been fortunate and blessed to serve our great City and I give God the glory for that opportunity. I want to sincerely thank the community for all of the support I have received over the last 10 years. It has been an honor and privilege to serve you and our community!” He thanked his wife and children for being so supportive and understanding of the time he has devoted to the city.
When asked what he will do with all the time he will have now that he’s no longer serving on the council, he said he would cherish the time he has with his family and wait and see where life takes him.
He has a wealth of knowledge and the city will lose a great asset.
Clermont city council thanked Bates for his service to the community and presented him with a plaque in appreciation of his service.
