Auto Collision is a male-dominated field however, Lake Technical College student Brooklynn DiFrederico is determined to prove that women can be just as successful in the collision industry as men. Brooklynn’s passion for working on cars encouraged her to enroll in the Auto Collision Technology program at Lake Tech. “The industry is interesting to me because I get excited when I can take badly beaten up vehicles with faded paint or crushed in an accident and make them look new! I see this as an important service to help people get their lives back on the road,” she states.
Brooklyn submitted an essay to the Women’s Industry Network (WIN) and received the Stars Scholarship awarded her $500.00 and a toolset and other supplies. WIN’s mission is to support and enhance the role of women in the collision repair industry, promoting education, professional advancement and networking. The scholarship will help Brooklynn continue to pursue her dream of becoming a skilled technician.
When asked has the program prepared you for the workforce? Brooklynn replied, “Lake Tech doesn’t miss a thing. They have covered every aspect of the collision industry so I feel confident when I go to work and I especially don’t feel like I am behind my peers. I hope I can open my own body shop one day and inspire other women to join this industry.”
