Game Summary:
Lake Minneola High School Hawks proved to be too much to handle last Thursday night for the South Lake High Eagles. The Hawks defeated South Lake by a score of 62-14 scoring pretty much at will on the Eagle dke Hefense all night. On the first drive of the night, the Eagle’s defense stopped the Hawks on their opening drive at the 50-yard line as junior standout Marcel Walker made an outstanding defensive play.
The Eagles got off to a fast start on offense as Kevens Charles rumbled down the field to the Hawks’ 1-yard line. Tre Kelly then plunged in from the one-yard line and Mikey McLeod made the extra point giving the Eagles an early 7-0 lead. The Hawks then came right back and scored missing the extra point and the Eagles still had a 7-6 lead. South Lake would again move the ball across the Hawks 50-yard line and Kelly would then complete a 43-yard touchdown pass to senior Marlon Trask putting the Eagles ahead 14-6. Again Lake Minneola would answer returning a kickoff 48 yards giving them outstanding field position. The Hawks would punch it in from there ending the first quarter with South Lake leading 14-12.
From there on out the Hawks manhandled the Eagle Defense, kickoff team, and the Eagle offense would struggle. The Eagles had turnovers, penalties, and bottom line just got pushed around by a stronger, more physical, and seasoned football team.
“ Lake Minneola is an outstanding football team and program. They are well coached and the players and coaching staff are dedicated to putting the work in year-round on the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom. That dedication pays off in the win column.”
