HOSA-Future Health Professionals, the largest international organization for middle school, high school, and postsecondary/collegiate students with an interest in the health professions, will be holding its largest gathering of future health professionals in Orlando, Florida, June 19-22, 2019.

Lake Minneola High School, Principal Linda Miller-Shepherd HOSA Chapter Advisor Pamela Godwin are sending six (6) delegates they will be competing in the following events:

 Mallerie Coss-Vargas, 1st Place local, regional & State for Nursing Assisting (CNA)

 Nathalie Averill, 1st Place local, regional & 2nd Place State for Prepared Speaking

 Ashley Aldabute, 1st Place local, regional & 3rd Place State for Dental Science

 Angelica Singh, 1st Place local, regional & 3rd Place State for Physical Therapy

 Arianna Moolchand & Jade Stump, 1st Place local, regional & 3rd Place State for Health Career Display

Over 11,525 health science students, advisors, government and private sector leaders, judges, family, and guests will be gathering at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort to compete, learn, network, and celebrate HOSA’s 42nd Annual International Leadership Conference with members from across the United States, Canada, and American Samoa. In addition, China HOSA will be awarded its charter at the conference! Led by Sarah Fleischman, President from the state of Florida, delegates will be able to take advantage of four exciting general sessions, 110 educational symposiums, over 75 exhibits from companies, universities, and nonprofit organizations, and two exhilarating speakers! 

Dr. Steve Robbins will deliver the keynote address at the opening session of HOSA’s 42nd International Leadership Conference! Dr. Robbins has endured tremendous difficulties in his life, and since overcoming them, has devoted his life to creating positive change through understanding human behavior and leveraging human differences. A specialist in cognitive neuroscience, socio-psychology, and communication, Dr. Robbins has worked with major corporations such as Disney, Microsoft, and NASA. 

Opening remarks for HOSA’s International Leadership Conference Recognition Session will be delivered by the 20th U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams. Known as the “Nation’s Doctor,” Dr. Adams’ motto as Surgeon General is “better health through better partnerships.” Dr. Adams is a board-certified anesthesiologist who has been a leader on the American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, and Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists. As a former Health Commissioner, he led Indiana’s response to Ebola, Zika, and the largest ever HIV outbreak in the U.S. related to injection drug use. 

Over 10,000 competitors will be competing in one of HOSA’s 71 health-related competitive events. These competitors won at their local, regional, state, and country competitions to earn their spot at HOSA’s 2019 International Leadership Conference! This year’s competitions will feature 11 new events by National Geographic Learning Center Academic Testing for Future Health Professionals in categories of Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Math, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Physics, Human Heredity, Allied Health Statistics, and Bioengineering. 

HOSA–Future Health Professionals is the largest international organization operating in schools for students enrolled in health science and biomedical sciences programs and serving those interested in pursuit of careers in health and biomedical professions. HOSA’s purpose is to develop leadership and technical competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition which is an integral part of the instruction. This student-led organization provides opportunities for students to practice and refine their academic, technical, leadership, and teamwork skills to achieve seamless transition from education to careers. 

In 2018-2019, HOSA membership exceeded 245,000 in 5,086 chapters across 49 state associations, and District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Canada, and China, with 53% ethnic diversity. Since 1976, HOSA has served 2.5 million students interested in pursuing careers in health. HOSA is the vital pipeline for the health industry—an industry that is projected to add nearly 4 million jobs in 2016-2026.
