Montverde Academy is pleased to announce that Dawei Shen has been hired as Head Indoor Volleyball Coach. He brings more than 18 years of coaching experience as well as 18 years of professional playing experience to the position.

Coach Shen joins MVA from Chicago Sports Performance Volleyball, where he served as a Master Coach and led his AAU 18 National team to a championship. Prior to that, he served for three seasons as the women’s team assistant coach at the University of Missouri. While there, Mizzou advanced twice to the second round of the NCAA tournament and was in the Sweet 16 in the 2016 NCAA tournament. He has also served as the assistant head coach for the Sichuan China Men’s Volleyball Club, the China Women’s Army Team and the Qatar Boys Junior National Team.

He will be responsible for the girls’ varsity indoor volleyball team with a focus on improving fundamental skills, building specialized position capabilities, enhancing both offensive and defensive play, overall athletic strength and conditioning, and more.

“As we continue to grow and develop our volleyball program, Coach Shen is an outstanding addition to our team,” said Khrystal Phiri, Director of Athletics, Montverde Academy. “His love for the game and passion for educating others in the sport are what I think make him a great fit for MVA. He has competed and coached at the levels our girls are trying to get to. He has contacts that will serve our girls well towards their future goals. We are looking forward to the 2019-20 season!”

Coach Shen is originally from Peking, China. He began playing volleyball professionally at 15 years old on the Beijing Professional Junior team, moving on to play for the China Junior National team and China National team.
