Over the past couple of months, 8-year-old Mia Hall has been on a mission. The Minneola Charter School second-grader was home with a friend making books. The books were just a fun project to read together. She then thought, “Why not make bookmarkers to help the police department have more presents for other children at Christmas time?” So she decided to make and sell the bookmarks as a fundraiser beginning with her dream of more Christmas gifts for the children.

It takes a lot of courage to stand up in a big public meeting and make a presentation. That is exactly what Mia did at the City Council Meeting on Monday, May 3.

The money she raised was presented to officer Delp representing the Groveland Police Department.

The project raised about $200 which she donated at the council meeting. The intent is and always was for the Groveland Police to use the money to buy toys for Christmas during their annual toy drive.

Mia lives with her parents Brian and Allyson Hall along with her brother Ari. Grandmother Paula Hall proudly states, “She stuck with her thoughts and made it a reality.” A “doer” is a person who acts rather than merely talking or thinking according to Oxford Dictionary. Mia may have been what they were defining. Paula added “that’s food for thought!
