Members of the Kiwanis Club of South Lake (KCOSL) were on hand recently to help out the Lake County Sheriff’s Charities with Project Kid Connect.  Project Kid Connect is an annual event that gives free backpacks and school supplies to deserving children in Lake County just before the beginning of the school year.  Hundreds of local children and their parents came to the event which gives kids an opportunity to interact with deputies and to see some of their cool equipment, including a mobile command center.  It was a day of fun which included food, a dunk tank, and a rock climbing wall.

The Kiwanis provided photos of the kids with a sheriff, therapy dogs, and Star Wars characters.  In addition, they brought smiles to the faces of the children with temporary tattoos and gave out copies of their coloring and activity book, “Colorful Clermont, a Journey Through Time”, which is the story of Clermont’s fascinating history.  KCOSL would like to give a big thank you to the Oakwood Smokehouse & Grill for providing us with crayons for this event.

Kiwanis International is a global organization dedicated to improving the lives of children.  Our club provides support to many local programs and charities.  For more information about Kiwanis or the Kiwanis Club of South Lake, please visit us at Kiwanis.org or kcosl.org.
