On March 28, Clermont City Council voted on a resolution updating the fee schedule for Utility Billing User Fees for Water and Sewer.

The city’s first comprehensive water and wastewater rate study was conducted in 2017. Prior to that study, the rates remained the same for at least 15 years, while the wastewater rates were adjusted by a previously adopted index that averaged approximately 4% per year from 2002 through 2017.

Since 2018 water and wastewater rates were adjusted 13% while the cumulative FPSC index rose 18%.  Existing customers have benefitted from lower utility rates primarily due to increased revenues resulting from new customer connections with the city’s service area and the city’s ability to defer certain capital improvements.

To continue to meet future capacity requirements, city staff proposed to expand the city’s wastewater treatment plant and to make certain water and wastewater transmission upgrades and improvements.

A study is currently underway to update the water and wastewater impact fees to ensure that developers are paying their proportionate share of the existing and planned treatment and transmission facilities.

Users would see an increase of approximately $5 on their monthly water bill.

After a lengthy presentation and attendees’ input, Council approved the rate increase resolution updating the fee schedule for Utility Billing User Fees for Water and Sewer.
