The Lake County Board of County Commissioners invites the public to participate in the planting of a Liberty Tree at the Fruitland Park Library (604 W. Berckman St., Fruitland Park) at 10 am on Tuesday, June 2. The public is invited to attend.
The first Liberty Tree was planted in Boston in 1765. There, a large elm tree served as a gathering place for Stamp Act protesters. Other liberty trees soon sprang up, and patriots often gathered beneath their branches to seek wisdom and support. As these trees came to symbolize American liberty, the liberty trees in Lake County serve as a reminder of our Founding Fathers and an inspiration to future generations who will gather in their shade.
