The Clermont Police Department (CPD) hosted a recruiting and application orientation on Friday, May 24that the Clermont Police Station, 3600 South US-27. The police department actively seeks potential candidates who are certified by the State of Florida’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. CPD also provides a police cadet program that enables qualified candidates to attend the police academy as sponsored students of the CPD.
Today’s event was opened by Chief Chuck Broadway greeting and speaking with each attendee while giving the department’s background and mission statement. “You have the opportunity to change lives, impact lives and the community, influence the community, and enhance the quality of life for everyone you come into contact with. The amount of good that you can do in this profession is immeasurable. At the end of the day here today, there are two questions that I hope you can answer for yourself. One, why do I want to be a police officer and two, why do I want to join the Clermont Police Department,” says Broadway to the attendees. City Manager Brian Bulthuis, Mayor Tim Murry, and City Councilmember Michael Gonzalez each spoke to the open forum regarding personal career experiences and the benefits of working for the CPD. “The Clermont Police Department is one of the best, if not the best, police department in Lake County,” says Bulthuis.
The group of approximately twenty-five potential candidates spent the day at the police department touring the various divisions such as criminal investigation, patrol, evidence, traffic enforcement, and administrative personnel. Staff members were on hand to answer any questions or concerns in each division.
Minimum qualifications required to become a Clermont Police Officer include:
- High school graduation or an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Completion of the Minimum Standards courses as set forth by the Florida Police Standards Council.
- Florida Law Enforcement Certification.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
