Michael Herrera, Executive Director of Community Foundation of South Lake, presented the award to Victoria Gomez

Victoria Gomez, a student at South Lake High School, was chosen as an Outstanding Student Leader and will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Foundations for Education program.  The program is in partnership with Community Foundation of South Lake.  This month’s scholarship sponsor was Pat Caracciolo, owner of Pat The Dog.  The award was presented during the South Lake Chamber of Commerce Breakfast.

Victoria Gomez is a student of South Lake High School. She holds a GPA of 4.7 and is a member of the National Honors Society and AVID. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.

Victoria was dual enrolled in many courses at the honors and AP level. She has volunteered as an altar server at Santo Toribio Romo and has been an AVID tutor and AVID leader.

Victoria has also been awarded the Presidential Award from Stetson University.  She has accomplished all of this while working 25-40 hours a week as a lead at Panda Express.

The Outstanding Student Leader Award is given to local high school students who exhibit a high level of academic achievement and prove to be outstanding citizens in our community. The factors that are considered are the scholastic record, school activities, involvement in clubs, service to community and sports activity.
