The Clermont Fire Department will honor a longstanding tradition while dedicating its newest engine to one of their own who died in the line of duty.

Clermont Fire Chief Carle Bishop said that his department will hold a “Push-in” ceremony on Saturday, July 14, at 9 am, at Fire Station No. 3, at 2155 Legends Way. The ceremony dates back to the days of horse-drawn engines.

The city’s newest fire apparatus is a $425,000 Pierce Saber Custom Triple Combination Pumper, which replaces a 2008 fire engine.

Bishop said the department will dedicate the new engine to the memory of former Clermont firefighter Joseph DeMarinis, who died July 14, 2016. DeMarinis began his career with the department in August 2014, following an 8-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Joseph DeMarinis served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2003 to 2011, rising to the rank of sergeant. He served two tours in Iraq as a scout sniper. He also served as a marksmanship instructor at Parris Island and achieved the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Expert Marksmanship Award, Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He was active in the Wounded Warrior Project.

DeMarinis joined the Clermont Fire Department on Aug. 11, 2014. Fellow firefighters say DeMarinis enjoyed sports and games and was a dedicated

DeMarinis died on July 14, 2016, after suffering a cardiac episode following his shift. He was 32 years old and was survived by his parents, sister and wife, Brandi. The couple had six children.
