With numerous surrounding cities deciding to cancel their customary Fourth of July festivities this year, the City of Groveland was challenged with the decision to press forward while celebrating safely. This year, Groveland will conduct a simultaneous dueling fireworks display on Saturday, July 4th, at 9:15 pm for everyone to watch from the comfort of their homes. “The Fourth of July is one of the many holidays our community looks forward to with affectionate anticipation each year.” Penned Mayor Evelyn Wilson in her Fourth of July letter to residents. “In previous years, our tradition has been to gather for the best things the Fourth of July in Groveland has to offer: food, fun and fireworks. However, the current circumstances this year have prompted us to become more innovative with how we celebrate.”
Traditionally, the City would invite residents and guests of the community to gather for a day of festivities before closing with a grand finale under the light of a spectacular fireworks display. Now, in light of Covid-19, the City is encouraging all residents to gather with family at their homes and look to the sky on the Fourth of July, at 9:15 pm for a special treat. According to the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) division, they believe that almost every single home and jurisdiction will have the benefit of seeing fireworks from their own property. Groveland is asking everyone to use the hashtags #GrovelandFireworks and #RedWhiteandYou when sharing their family photos and firework videos to social media.
In addition to fireworks, great food is synonymous with great celebrations. Which is why the City will be utilizing its Groveland General Store to offer made-to-order celebration baskets for those who are interested in complimenting their holiday cheer with signature Groveland flair.
These baskets will range from ready to grill food items such as brisket, short rib, burger patties and turkey-dogs, to oven-ready baked beans, macaroni salad, blueberry pie and whole watermelon. Signature July Fourth items such as handheld flags and sparklers will also be included with basket purchases. To place an order, visit www.Grovelandgeneral.com and select “Fourth of July Baskets.” Customers must place their orders by Monday, June 29, and may pick them up curbside at the Lake Catherine Blueberry Farm Friday, July 3, between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Taking precautions to preserve the health of the community without compromising the celebratory spirit of unity, is of top priority to the City.
